Chirac in history.

And now we are seeing the final months of the presidency of Jacques Chirac.
Chirac had a long and illustrious career in politics. One of his greatest failings as president was
his inability to handle the riots in the mostly-Muslim suburbs. His refusal to allow the military to aide in getting control stains his already mixed legacy. What many people in the US do not know is that beat cops in France are un-armed. While it is uncertain who will take over the leeds of France, what is certain is that it has to be someone stronger. No one person can solve all problems. It appears at the moment that the Interior Minister, Nicolas Sarkozy will take it. Sarkozy is by far the stronger of the two. No offence to Madame Royal, but a kid glove doesn't solve anything. Sarkozy is one of the few leaders in Europe who isn't afraid to call a spade a spade. While the dinosaur media in the US and weasels in power in Europe referred to the rioters as poor and dis-advantaged, Sarkozy referred to them as Scum.

The Israeli Solution

Prior to the Philistine infitada the Israeli agricultural sector relied heavily on cheap Arab labour.
The near-universal argument put forward by many politicians and agricultural corporations was that
the Arabs were doing work that Israeli Jews simple would not do. (Sound familiar, anyone?)
After the infitada started it became apparent at last that maybe the Israelis shouldn't be depending on Arabs.
That might be the no duh moment of the millennium. The next step was the importation of cheap Polish labourers.
Of course they were filling jobs that Israelis simply would not do. The Israeli agricultural sector was dependent on cheap labour so it was said. It did not take too long to realise that the second solution would not work either.
Finally they gave in and decided that Israeli workers might be needed to do those jobs. The result was... It worked!
Israeli Jews filled the jobs!!! Agricultural employers raised wages and made some progress on mechanisation.
Simple put... Once wages became reasonable Israelis filled agricultural jobs. Yes, food prices did go up.
So did wages. The two ended up balancing each other. Israel is now independent of cheap labour for its lower-wage jobs. If it works in Israel it would work here. Most jobs now being filled by illegal aliens and temporary workers from
Latin America were being filled by people who did not have much education. They wanted to work but illegals undercut their wages so much it no longer was worthwhile. It would be better for society as a whole to put our own people to work and solve many  of our own problems rather than importing people from another country and only increasing our share of problems.

Enough already.

14th June, 1846 -- the day that the Bear Flag Revolt erupted in California. Twenty-four days later the California Republic was annexed to the United States. By any rational standards the territory changed hands. To some people south of the border facts can't get in the way of their opinions. So it has become their right to live in the State of California. We owe them a livelihood. We are prosperous, they are poor. The poverty of Mexico is rather ironic when contrasted to California's prosperity considering that Mexico is far wealthier in natural resources and land. While I'm sure most people's hearts go out to people living in poverty; I'm equally sure that we don't want them to make their problems ours. The problems of Mexico have been brought to California by illegal immigration. We, the people of California have done all that we could. We passed prop 187, we made English our official language, our governor -- Arnold Alois Schwarzenegger (Black Plow, to those curious of the meaning of his name) has vetoed pro-illegal alien bills.  Now it is the duty of the Federal Government of the United States to do its share.  Our former governor, Ronald Reagan, did the best he could. He allowed amnesty while grating his teeth. No better could be expected from a Jackass-controlled congress. Twenty years later El Presidente Jorge Arbusto De Los Mexicanos norte del Rio Grande (President George Bush of the Mexicans North of the Rio Grande) decided he would go all gung ho for illegal aliens. In that 20-tear-span California, once a reliable Red State became a reliable Blue State as the result of heavy immigration legal and not as well as higher levels of liberals from the other 49 states moving in.
The future is uncertain for California. Maybe eventually someone with moral rectitude will take over the presidency of the United States and do something useful. Maybe the Supreme Court will rule that only children of born of citizens in the USA are entitled to citizenship. Or, maybe, people will decide enough is enough and reclaim their country by peaceful means. I.e. move into a state and outbid the illegals for everything. Progress is being made by states and munincipalities. Now hopefully the Federal Government will do SOMETHING.

Next time:

Israel: labour and immigration lessons.
How Israel built an effective security wall and still had their agricultural sector not get ruined.
AKA: Israelis doing jobs that Israelis simply won't do.
